FORM – 4

Theme:  There is, there are.

Lesson objectives:

Educational:

  • By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to present and practice new vocabulary;

Educative:

  • To teach pupils how to use the constructions: There is, there are.

Developing:

  • The pupils should speak more to develop their speaking, make up sentences and try to use new words.

Visual aids: posters, markers, flipcharts, cards, and an overhead projector.

Expected results: After the lesson pupils can use target vocabulary and the constructions “There is, there are” in their speaking skills.

Type of the lesson: Giving new materials.

I.Org moment  3min.

Teacher divides pupils into three groups and distributes one sentence in a jumbled order to each group. For example: “bread the is no on there table”, “little white a cloud in the sky is there”, “there a is piano hall the” and draws pupils’ attention to these sentence. And asks the pupils to unscramble the words. By this way teacher elicits the theme of the previous lesson.

II. Consolidation of the previous lesson 7min.

There is, there are. Vocabulary.

Teacher asks the new words which they learnt in previous lesson by concept checking with the whole class:

  • Where do people live? – Possible answers:

ü  Flat, House.

  • Where do people eat?

ü  Diningroom, canteen, restaurant.

  • How can we go up inside the building?

ü  By using upstairs

  • How can we go down inside the building?

ü  By using downstairs

  • What do people use to sit and relax in the living-room?

ü  Sofa and armchair

  • Where do people hang their X-mas stockings in Britain?

ü  Fire-place

III. Presentation 18min.

Teacher presents the new theme by eliciting.

Teacher shows the vase and puts a flower in it and asks to

whole class: What did I do? (If possible Teacher can use L1)  according their answers Teacher explains structure “There is a ….”

What did I do? (If possible Teacher can use L1)  according their answers Teacher explains structure “There are ….”

We use “There is” for singular form and “There are” for plural form.

Teacher says: it is time to learn and understand new words:

For this Teacher shows them several pictures turn by turn and

presents new words by showing pictures or real objects.

For example:

Teacher shows the picture of “curtain” and gives correct pronunciation

of the word. For the first time pupils should listen and for the second

time they should repeat after the teacher in rows. The process will go

on by showing all new words.

Target vocabulary: Furniture, curtain, corner, in the middle, mirror, quite.

After that pupils should write down all words and structures from the

blackboard.

IV. Practice 8 min.

Activity .In this stage pupils work in pairs (they choose the pupil who sits on the

right hand). Teacher distributes set of pictures (Target vocabulary) to

each pair and pupil should explain the picture by miming and gestures

The another pupil should guess what it is.

After practicing target vocabulary pupils work in previous

groups. Teacher distributes pictures and demonstrates activity.

For example: “There is a book shelf in the picture.” “There are two curtains

in the picture.” Teacher distributes the same pictures to the groups and pupils

should describe them and write their sentences using structures

“There is” “There are”.

V. Evaluation 4 min.

The pupils who took active part in the lesson were evaluated after each

activity with smiles. And Teacher collects all smiles and identifies

winner group.

VI. Homework 5min.

Teacher gives homework: to draw pictures of given vocabulary and describe

them.
